Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have a proportional, harmonious physique, they are elegant and graceful. Ears are set high, covered with thick hair, long. The tail is straight, mobile, keeps on the back line, remains in its natural state or is stopped by 1/3. Spaniel’s hair is long, silky, slightly wavy, on the ears, the underside of the tail and the back of the limbs longer. The color can be black with bright tan, bright dark red (ruby), black and tan with pegim (tricolor) and pearl white with rich chestnut (blenheim).
Character
Needless to say, the “gentlemen” have an ideal character. These are sociable, very intelligent, cheerful, people-oriented dogs, always and everywhere being in the center of attention.
This pet will surely find something good in every passerby and fervently tails in a sign of attention. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels love to communicate with people, in particular, with children, with whom they easily find a common language and share all the games. Warning: a patient pet can even play the role of a doll in a stroller and will endure such tests as weaving braids from its long hair. He will never hurt a child, and noisy children’s games will give him sincere joy.
Of course, friendly dogs will surely make friends with other pets, instantly earning their trust and sympathy.
Communication with others, active games and travels are the main pleasures in the life of the gentleman-king-charles spaniels. In the absence of attention, energetic dogs become sad and apathetic, lose interest in everything, do not accept food. Therefore, starting a “gentleman”, it is necessary to understand that with a pet you need to actively engage and develop his abilities, and evaluate your strength. A spaniel is not a dog that can bask all day on its cozy bed. Nevertheless, this breed suits literally everyone – both an active family and an elderly person – it is only important that the pet is not deprived of attention and has the opportunity every day to move and play enough.
However, mistreatment and improper upbringing can negatively affect the inborn talent of the breed. Nervous, the dog will behave restlessly, begin to act up and even bite. With the “gentlemen” should always be treated kindly, carefully and kindly. In addition, we must not forget about the high need of a pet to caress and communicate with the owner. Since childhood, the “gentleman” needs to be socialized, so that he communicates with different people and animals, otherwise the pet will become too attached to the owner and it will be incredibly difficult to endure loneliness.
Health
In general, the “gentlemen” good health, these dogs are active, hardy, and their life expectancy is on average 12 years.
However, the breed has a tendency to diseases such as Legg-Perthes disease, hydrocephalus, cryptorchidism, various eye diseases and heart problems, and long ears require regular examination for the occurrence of infections. Like most flattened dogs, Spaniels may have breathing problems.
Proper nutrition and regular active walks reduce the risk of developing many diseases. However, it is recommended that the pet be taken for a visit to the vet at least once a year. Do not forget that the sooner the malaise is detected, the easier it is to heal.
Care
Beautiful, charming dogs are quite unpretentious in maintenance and care. They feel great in the house and in the apartment, and completely picky about food.
Particular attention is paid to the dog’s coat, it must be combed 2-3 times a week. Eyes and ears susceptible to otitis media require regular inspection.
It is very important to provide the dog with daily long walks and games, without the attention and activity of the “gentlemen” feel very bad. These pets suffer loneliness, and they should not be wound up often by missing people.
Story
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have a very interesting story, on the one hand it is an old one, and on the other a short one. Such a contrast is explained by the fact that the breed existed already in the 16th century, but for several years it has undergone significant changes. In 1926, American breeders found that modern King Charles are very different from their ancestors.
