When you meet Ca de Bou for the first time, you might think that this is a strict and uncommunicative dog. And this statement can be considered true, but only exclusively in relation to strangers. Because in the bosom of the family Ca de Bou behave incredibly obedient and friendly.
Appearance
Ca de Bou (other breed names: Majorcan mastiff and perro de presto majorcan) are strong, muscular, molossoid-type dogs from Mallorca. The maximum height at the withers of these dogs is 58 cm, and the weight is 38 kg.
Ca de Bou has a well-developed musculature, due to which they appear much larger than their actual size. In fact, these dogs are of medium height, with a rather compact body of a slightly stretched format. They have a powerful, thick neck (a small suspension is allowed), a strong, massive head with a developed jaw, a wide, cone-shaped muzzle with a slightly upturned back of the nose. The eyes are large, oval-shaped, the nose is black and wide. The tail is set low, thick, tapers to the tip. The coat is hard, dense and short. The color may be variegated, deer or black.
Character
They are loyal, attentive, affectionate, they perfectly feel the atmosphere and adapt to the mood of the owner, and also treat children very carefully.
The relationship of Ca de Bou with children, perhaps, deserve special attention. Ca de Bou is balanced and incredibly patient, they allow the little fidgets to do whatever they want with them and never offend the little ones.
These pets with sincere joy join the games and interact with each member of the family. Ca de Bou is a dog not of one person, but of the whole family: he does not give preference to someone alone, but tries to demonstrate his love and devotion to every loved one. Friends of the Ca de Bou family are also benevolent, but they are very wary of strangers and strangers. Ca de Bou has a highly developed protective instinct, these dogs make excellent watchmen. For example, if in the presence of a host, a dog favorably treats guests, then if there is no host, the faithful guard will not allow anyone except family members to enter the house, even if the uninvited guest is familiar to the dog. Thanks to innate instinct, Ca de Bou unmistakably determines who are friends and who are enemies; hold and fool this smart guard is impossible.
Ca de Bou never show aggression without a reason – neither to people, nor to other animals. They are calm, balanced, they easily find a common language with other dogs – and even more often they start to take care of weaker four-legged comrades. However, we should not forget that the Ca de Bou is a dog with a strong character, and it must be educated and trained from an early age. Competent education and training will help discover and develop the best qualities of this amazing breed.
Health
The breed is characterized by excellent health, and the life expectancy of the Ca de Bou reaches 15 years on average.
