Moscow watchdogs are very strong, versatile dogs, created by special order of the Ministry of Defense in the 50s. They harmoniously combine gigantic sizes (there is no upper limit to growth), high working qualities and unshakable devotion to their owner. Intelligent and balanced, they are always on their guard, and in the event of a threat, act quickly and decisively.
Moscow Watchdog is a very large breed bred by special order of the USSR Ministry of Defense. Moscow Watchdogs are real giants that have no upper limits to growth, but the minimum height is set: for males – not less than 68 cm, and for bitches – not less than 66 cm.
These are massive, strong dogs with large bones and developed muscles. The body is proportional, balanced, slightly stretched, the withers are above the level of the sacrum, the back is strong and strong, the chest is long and wide, the stomach is tucked up. Limbs straight, parallel, very strong, paws large, arched, in a lump. The neck is short, massive and muscular, the head is large, proportional to the body, with a pronounced transition from the forehead to the muzzle. The muzzle is wide and voluminous, the lips are fleshy, the teeth are large, strong, scissors bite. The eyes are round, small, dark color; look confident and calm. Ears are small, drooping, triangular shape with rounded tips. The tail is wide and thick, comes to the hock, in the active state it rises above the level of the back in the form of a sickle.
The coat is straight, long, dense and thick with a developed undercoat. Slightly shorter on the head and front of the limbs. May be slightly wavy in the lumbar region, thighs and croup. Color: white-red, white-red-brown, with black markings on the face and ears.
Despite the gigantic size, Moscow watchdogs are very energetic and elegant dogs, who love exciting games and long walks with the owner. They have a contrasting character, which breeders tried to achieve in their work: these dogs are wary and distrustful of strangers, and loyal and friendly towards their family.
The Moscow Watchdog possesses innate developed guarding qualities, it is attentive, alert, impossible to hold. However, in the family circle, these formidable guards turn into giant teddy and completely harmless bears who love to tinker with children, and children, in turn, love to tinker with them. A balanced, calm and very intelligent dog will never offend a child and will become for him an excellent protector and friend. Moscow watchdogs are very affectionate and friendly with all members of the family, but for themselves they choose one owner, the main person, who will be obeyed without question.
Once on the “post of service” fluffy kind-hearted person immediately changes. He is strict, stern and responsible, and in the case of a threat, he acts quickly and decisively. The warning growl of the Moscow watchdog clearly demonstrates the fact that the dog will not stand on ceremony with an intruder. However, it rarely comes to the manifestation of aggression: a majestic kind of dog is enough for an attacker to change intentions.
A calm, balanced dog, as a rule, is obedient and does not cause trouble, but the training of a majestic pet may not be the easiest exercise. Strong, proud dogs are often stubborn, and all educational and training work with them must be persistent and patient. The owner in any case should not show cruelty and aggression in relation to the pet, it will only worsen the situation and call into question its authority.
Moscow watchdog should not start novice dog breeders. This dog is designed for a strong, confident and fair man, who knows a lot about training and appreciates the strong qualities of the breed.
The breed has a tendency to diseases such as dysplasia of the hip joints, food allergies, obesity, but with the right content strong by nature dogs rarely get sick.
On average, the life span of Moscow watchdogs is 9-11 years.
Moscow watchdogs do not require specific care and are rather unpretentious in content. They need free space, but they feel good in a spacious apartment with regular walks. But, of course, the best place to keep such large dogs is still a country house.
Thanks to a developed undercoat, Moscow watchdogs are not afraid of cold and bad weather, they do an excellent job with their tasks in the cold season.
The key to good health watchdog is proper nutrition. These dogs are prone to corpulence, and in no case can not overfeed.
As for hygienic care, it is, in general, standard. Dogs need to be regularly combed, inspected the ears and mouth, conduct routine vaccination and treatment for parasites, and in case of ailments, contact a veterinarian in a timely manner.
