This elongated dog with a narrow muzzle and short limbs is the best hunter and has a strong, strong-willed character. Dachshund always keeps its nose in the wind, and its beautiful posture, head held high and free movement fascinates and delights. If you are an active and energetic person, then it seems that you have found your ideal pet!
Appearance
Dachshund is one of the most popular dog breeds, whose representatives every second exude energy, optimism, curiosity and a great love for life. These are medium-sized, but very strong and hardy dogs, with a squat elongated body, elongated narrow muzzle and short limbs.
There are several types of dachshunds: by weight and size, and by type of wool. Let’s start with the first classification:
Standard fees. The height at the withers of males is 22-27 cm, the bough is 20-25 cm. Weight is from 6.5 to 9 kg. Chest circumference from 35 cm.
Dwarf dachshunds. The height at the withers of males is 16-21 cm, the bough is 14-19 cm. The chest girth is 30-35 cm.
Rabbit dachshunds. The height at the withers of males is 12-15 cm, the bough is 13-10 cm. Weight is less than 3.5 kg. Chest circumference less than 30 cm.
By type of wool dachshunds are:
Shorthair. The coat is short, smooth and dense. The following colors are allowed: monophonic (red, deer, sable), two-tone (black, gray, chocolate with white markings on the extremities, tan with bright spots on the head, chest and limbs, etc.), marble (or harlequin, light main color with red , brown or black spots of irregular shape).
Hard-haired. The coat is thick, hard, dense, with undercoat. There are noticeable eyebrows, a mustache and a small beard. Color may be different.
Longhair The coat is long, soft, slightly wavy. Color options are the same as for short-haired dachshunds.
The eyes of the dachshunds are dark brown, their ears are necessarily hanging and rounded at the tips, the tail is thinned in the direction from the base and in the active state keeps on the back line.
Long-haired dachshund
Character
In appearance, the dachshund can get the impression of her clumsiness and sluggishness, but it is difficult to find a more agile and agile animal than she. Dachshunds are incredibly energetic, they are always on the move, they love to play and have an inexhaustible source of cheerfulness and optimism. They are quick-witted, brave, hardy – in a word, they have all the qualities of an ideal hunter.
At the same time, the dachshund is a wonderful pet, but only for active people. If you lead an active lifestyle, this dog will become your best friend and companion, with whom it is so interesting to travel and comprehend new heights!
However, when starting a dachshund, you should take into account the self-will of the breed. If you pay enough attention to raising a pet, then it is very likely to grow up to be disobedient and obstinate.
Health
Like other hunters, the dachshund characterizes excellent health. However, due to the nature of the skeleton, they may have back problems and develop hernias. Another “tack” disease is black acanthosis, but it occurs infrequently. Some diseases can be hereditary, others develop under conditions of improper maintenance and feeding. Be careful when choosing a puppy, study the pedigrees of its ancestors and follow the recommendations for maintenance and care.
The life expectancy of dachshunds with the correct content ranges from 14 to 17 years.
Care
Dachshunds feel great in terms of housing content and show themselves as quite unpretentious pets. Daily active walks are a prerequisite for their content. However, you need to make sure that the dog jumps up and down as little as possible, because such jumps cause displacement of the vertebrae.
Wool dachshunds enough to comb once a week. The condition of the eyes and ears should be monitored regularly.
Proper maintenance is impossible without a high-quality balanced feeding. Taks in any case can not overfeed.
Shepherd dachshund
Story
Unfortunately, it is impossible to track the entire history of the breed, but it is known that the short-haired variety is the oldest.
Short-haired dachshunds were bred in the 17th century. by crossing pinschers and marriages (old stunted hounds). These dogs gave rise to the development of two other species: long-haired (crossing with spaniels, 18th century) and wire-haired (short-haired dachshunds, schnauzers, dwarf pinschers, scotch terriers, and dandie dinmont terriers) participated in the selection. The first official breed standard was published in 1879.
Dachshunds have long been used to hunt game, hare, rabbit, fox and badger and have established themselves as talented hunters. Today, dachshunds continue to serve as hunting, but, in addition, are popular pets, which are often found both in the country and in the city.
