Yorkshire Terrier (York)

Yorkshire terriers are cute, miniature dogs, but you shouldn’t judge their temperament by their angelic appearance. The character of the Yorkshire Terrier is the character of a big beast: strong, independent, confident and brave, and so brave that York can easily have a fight with a dog that is several times larger than him.
Appearance
Yorkshire terriers – one of the most popular dog dogs, pets of the whole world. The height at the withers of these dogs is approximately 20 cm, and the weight varies up to 3.1 kg.
In dogs, a harmonious body, compact, stocky body, straight back, straight limbs, round paws, the head is proportional to the body, the muzzle is not long, scissors bite. The eyes are medium in size, dark with dark edging. The ears are erect, small, triangular in shape. The tail is cut by ½, held above the level of the back, covered with wool. The coat is long, straight, silky. Color: dark bluish steel on the body, bright red on the chest.
Character
These are inquisitive, mobile, benevolent dogs that are loyal to their owner – and always stand up for him in case of danger. In addition, the Yorkies feel the mood of a person perfectly and are always ready to adapt to it. They love to communicate with the owner, play fun games and be the focus of the whole family. However, these dogs do not like very noisy children’s games, therefore it can be difficult for families with small children to have York.
Movable Yorkies are talented participants of agility, almost without any exhibition without the participation of miniature dogs with fabulous looks. But when starting a tiny friend, you should not forget that a real hunter lives in his soul! For a restless, curious pet you need an eye and an eye, and you cannot do without consistent education with a funny restless person.
Health
As a rule, the breed is characterized by quite good health. The life expectancy of Yorkies is about 15 years, often these dogs live up to 20.
However, it can be noted a number of diseases to which representatives of the breed have a tendency: cryptorchidism, Perthes disease, tracheal collapse, distichiasis, etc.
Care
Yorkshire terriers are ideal dogs for housing maintenance, but as a tribute to hunting instincts, terriers need active games and loads every day.
In general, Yorkies need standard care. The beautiful, long hair requires special attention, it needs to be carefully combed every day. If the dog does not participate in exhibitions, wool is recommended to cut.
Story
Homeland of Yorkshire Terriers – United Kingdom. The ancestors of the Yorks were the Kleidesdal-Terriers, Paisley-Terriers, and Waterside Terriers, brought to England in Yorkshire from Scotland in the early 19th century.
Later, in England, the Waterside Terriers were crossed with Old English Wire-haired black and tan terriers, Maltese lapdogs, Cairn terriers and other dogs, so the Yorkshire terriers appeared.
Initially, the Yorkies were used as hunters for rats or burrows, and then became the most fashionable lapdogs around the world.
Officially, the breed was registered in 1886, in 1898 the first standard was published.
Interesting Facts
The 40s funny York named Smokey became a real war hero. The owner of the dog was an air force pilot, and he often had to take his pet with him to combat operations. However, the war was miniature, but the brave Smokey did not lose her mind: she warned the soldiers about the attacks of Japanese kamikazes, made communications, saved the wounded, leading nurses to them, jumped with a parachute – and even saved her master’s life several times! For valor and bravery Smokey was awarded 8 combat awards. Fortunately, the brave dog survived the war safely, she lived to be 14 years old and starred in a variety of programs about courage and valor in the terrible years of the war.
