Bull terrier

Yes, initially the bull terriers were bred as a purely fighting dogs, and their main purpose was considered to be dog fighting and harassment of large animals. But times have changed, and manners have changed with them. Violent entertainment in the past, and the breed efforts of talented breeders was adjusted and adapted for home maintenance.
Appearance
Bull terriers are small, but very strong and muscular dogs with a rather unusual appearance. It is important to note that the breed standard is rather vague, but a number of basic characteristics are highlighted.
As a rule, the height of bull terriers at the withers can reach 45 cm, and weight – 30 kg, however, the breed standard does not limit the height and weight of dogs. The dog should not give the impression of being heavy or, on the contrary, lean. It is important that the bull terrier is harmonious and proportionate and has a stocky, dense physique.
According to the general characteristics, the bull terriers have a strong constitution with a developed musculature, a wide, powerful chest, a short, strong back, muscular, stable limbs, a low set long head, devoid of distortions and bends, and when viewed full face taking the shape of an egg, a strong jaw is strong, healthy teeth, scissor bite. Eyes narrow, medium-sized, obliquely set, triangle-shaped, color: dark brown. Ears are small, located at a small distance from each other, standing. The tail is low set, short and tapering to the tip. The coat is short and dense, color: white (there may be spots on the head) or color (color prevails over white).
As part of the ICF breed, a variety of “miniature bull terriers” has been allocated, the growth of representatives does not exceed 35.5 cm.
Character
Today, bull terriers are wonderful dogs – companions, and it is difficult to find a friend who is more faithful and more reliable than this dog. But one should not expect congenital angelic behavior from the fighting breed: what the dog will be like, depends entirely on the owner, how it brings up the pet and what features it encourages.
By nature, any dog is a predator, and with illiterate treatment even the most benevolent dog can become dangerous, which is to say about fighting dogs, in which aggression is easier to develop than among representatives of other breeds.
However, aggression towards a person is not embedded in the breed, the standard is presented only by balanced, thinking dogs, and the uncharacteristic behavior of bull terriers in the vast majority of cases is the result of incorrect content, incorrect education and deliberate development of aggressive features in the dog.
If the owner competently educated and socialized the pet, and also established friendly, trusting relations with him, becoming at the same time a wise, fair leader, then the bull terrier will never cease to amaze him with his excellent qualities. Indeed, despite the aggressive appearance, it is a restless, cheerful, childishly active dog that loves to play and be near the owner. The bull terrier has a sharp mind and high intelligence, he always sensibly assesses the situation and carefully studies the people around him. This dog infinitely respects its owner, it is loyal and obedient to him, but it requires the same respectful and friendly attitude in response.
Bull Terrier is a dog for an active, fair person, a strong owner and a strong dog immediately become not spill water, shading and complementing each other.
Bull terriers need socialization and proper training. These dogs are strictly not recommended for beginners.
Health
Bull terriers are hardy dogs with good health. Eyes and ears need to be regularly checked for inflammation, and for good health and maintaining health, the dog needs active walks with jumping over the crossbar, jogging, playing with a ball, etc., and a good diet without disturbances, since dogs tend to to excess weight.
Care
Bull terriers are unpretentious dogs that do not require complex care. During the period of molting (2 times a year) it is necessary to regularly brush the dog with a brush or a special mitten. No need for frequent washing, all dirt is easily removed with a damp sponge or towel. The claws of the bull terriers are sheared as necessary, if they are not worn off naturally while walking.
Story
Homeland bull terrier – England. This breed was bred in the middle of the 19th century by many years of breeding work. The ancestors of the bull terrier are the white English terrier, the English bulldog and even the Dalmatian.
For the first time the white bull terrier was presented at the dog show of 1862 by the breeder James Hinks. The audience was pleased to note that the breed is not peculiar to the “bulldog”, lip looseness, suspensions on the neck, etc. The bull terriers combined the best features of their ancestors: developed muscles combined with intelligence, sturdiness and almost youthful activity. It is not surprising that the breed immediately gained a lot of fans.
